Have confidence in St. Joseph! This Prayer to St. Joseph was prescribed by Pope Leo XIII for the month of October after the recitation of the Rosary.

It is in the Prayers After Communion as a Communion meditation in the 1950s New Marian Missal.

Life of St. Joseph

The best book I've ever read about St. Joseph was The Life And Glories Of Saint Joseph, by Edward Healy Thompson, M.A. It is so good to have an excellent book to recommend.

We also have five St. Joseph coloring pages below. He answers prayers so well and so quickly! As St. Teresa of Avila said: "Go to Joseph!" in your necessity.

He is also patron of the Universal Church and his feast day, March 19, is a holy day of obligation in some countries. Since March is also the month of St. Joseph, it is a good time to pray these prayers. If it falls on a Sunday in Lent, it is observed on the following Monday.

It's also good to teach them about him when they are learning about Extreme Unction since he is the Patron of a Holy Death. When you're teaching the Fourth Commandment "Honor thy father and thy mother." You can show how Jesus honored Joseph. Bible class is a natural as Joseph was so important in the Nativity stories.

1. Printable Prayer to St Joseph

As mentioned above we've prayed this prayer with our Rosary every night for years. It's beautiful! Print it to pray and to share.

To thee, O Blessed Joseph, we have recourse in our affliction; and having implored the help of thy thrice holy Spouse, we now with hearts filled with confidence, earnestly beg thee also to take us under thy protection. By that charity wherewith thou wast united to the Immaculate Virgin, Mother of God, and by that fatherly love with which thou didst cherish the Child Jesus, we beseech thee and we humbly pray, thou thou wouldst look down with gracious eye upon that inheritance which Jesus Christ purchased by His Blood, and wilt assist in our need by thy power and strength.

Defend, O most watchful Guardian of the Holy Family, the chosen offspring of Jesus Christ. Keep from us, O most loving Father, all blight of error and corruption. Aid us from on high, most valiant Defender, in this conflict with the powers of darkness. And even as of old, thou didst rescue the Child Jesus from the peril of His life, so now defend God's Holy Church from the snares of the enemy and from all adversity.

Shield us ever under thy patronage, that following thine example and strengthened by thy help, we may live a holy life, die a happy death, and attain to everlasting bliss in Heaven. Amen.

4. Prayer To St Joseph Over 1500 Years Old

This Prayer to St Joseph Holy Card features a picture of him on the front. On the back there is the prayer that was found in the fiftieth year of Our Lord Jesus Christ. In 1500's this prayer to St Joseph was sent by the Pope to Emperor Charles when he was going into battle.

"Whoever reads this prayer or hears it or carries it, will never die a sudden death, nor be drowned, nor will poison take effect on them. They will not fall into the hands of the enemy nor be burned in any fire, nor will they be defeated in battle.

Say for nine consecutive mornings for anything you may desire. It has seldom been known to fail."

O St. Joseph whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the Throne of God, I place in you all my interests and desires. O St. Joseph do assist me by your powerful intercession and obtain for me from your Divine Son all spiritual blessings through Jesus Christ, Our Lord; so that having engaged here below your Heavenly power I may offer my Thanksgiving and Homage to the most Loving of Fathers. O St. Joseph, I never weary contemplating you and Jesus asleep in your arms. I dare not approach while He reposes near your heart. Press him in my name and kiss His fine Head for me, and ask Him to return the Kiss when I draw my dying breath. St. Joseph, Patron of departing souls, pray for us. Amen.

The prayer to St. Joseph is efficacious because St. Joseph obeyed the Will of God in all things.

Note: We agree in principle with the admonition that it is nearly superstitious and disrespectful to bury an image of St. Joseph in order to obtain some favor as with the sale of real estate, especially placing the image of St. Joseph upside down. We heard it in a sermon but do not know where the source is for this quote against this practice.

Note: We have also heard a sermon that noted that it is at least odd to depict Saint Joseph as an old man when Jesus was an Infant and His Mother was young. Please consider this as you search for a prayer to St. Joseph or an image of him.
